Vacation in Style

The land I belong to treats men and women with equality (well, almost), we don't believe in dowry,  female infanticide is never heard of and cooking is not restricted to ladies only, infact most pahadi men enjoy spending time in the kitchen and they are pretty good at it! Wondering why am I talking about all this? It's because even though Uttrakhand falls in the northern region of this country where karwa chauth is celebrated with alot of pomp and grandeur, its not a part of pahadi tradition. Pahadi's dont observe karwa Chauth so you can call it peer pressure or merely my excitement about the whole festivities around it . I have been observing this fast for a while now (yes, even before I got married). There have been so many talks around the festival promoting sexist and regressive idologies but even though I call myself a feminist I have no qualms in admitting that I absolutely love the idea of applying mehendi,  buying new clothes, going without food and water for a few hours, dressing up and having a ball of a time with my girls. I don't expect my husband to do the same for me instead I enjoy being the centre of attention for this one day. To each their own fellas!
Here I am flaunting my pichoda, a traditional kumaoni odhani adorned by every married woman on all auspicious occasion. A haldi color dupatta with  deep red color polka dots, has symbols like swastik, om, shankh and flowers on it.

Wearing a pochampalli saree which I bought on my last trip to Bengaluru. I was infact looking for a kanjeevram when I laid my eyes on this beauty and I instantly fell in love. Things we do for love, sigh!

I paired the two beauties with gold jhumkas and bangles and solah shringar and I was Karwa Chauth ready!
